Keeping patients safe is what we all strive to do, so any new ways in which we can achieve this is warmly welcomed in the aesthetics specialty.
For some years now, the evolution of ultrasound and its application to prevent and manage complications has been growing traction.
Scanning the area prior to and during treatment allows you to see a vascular map of the patient’s face, while also showing you exactly what plane you are injecting in. The technology helps you to avoid hitting danger zones and creating sub-optimal results.
Some years ago, ultrasound devices were bulky, heavy contraptions with grainy resolutions. Nowadays, you can purchase small hand-held products that fit in your pocket and deliver ultra-clear images!
Thinking About Purchasing Your First Ultrasound Device?
So, what should you consider before investing in an ultrasound device?
Know your anatomy: it’s no good scanning the face if you don’t know what you’re looking at. A thorough understanding of the anatomical facial structure is essential if you’re thinking of using ultrasound.
Make time for training: while you may know your anatomy, you must also learn how to recognise it in an ultrasound image! There’s plenty to read online, but a training course where you can try out an ultrasound device for yourself will make all the difference.
Understand the finances: if you have unlimited resources, then it can be easy to make the decision to invest. But if like most small independent practices, money is a bit tighter, then you need to consider the cost of the device and the impact this may have on your business. They are expensive – starting at £2,900 for Clarius’ cheapest device and upwards of £4,540 for the more advanced product. Does investing mean hiking treatment costs for patients? And would your patients be amenable to this?

Anything that improves client safety should be considered. I’d say Ultrasound is a must for any practitioner planning to use Dermal fillers on the nose or forehead, anatomical knowledge isn’t enough on areas of high risk. Handheld Ultrasound is getting better and better (still expensive though).
OK, sometimes we don’t want to type in the website address… EVERY TIME… we want to visit that site. Sometimes we would just like to click a button! So, add Teleta to your mobile phones home screen!
